Athletes Dump Ogun For Other States Due To Poor Facilities

Ogun State is currently losing some of its top athletes to other states due to the poor state of sports facilities in the state, it has been learnt.

One of such facilities currently in a bad state is the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta.  It is the headquarters of the Ogun State Sports Council.

The centre’s indoor sports hall houses indoor sports such as table tennis, badminton, wrestling and gymnastics while it also has facilities for basketball, handball and tennis.

Super Eagles: Rohr Set To Consider Players In Europe Ahead Of Players In China

Gernot Rohr has warned players of the senior national team moving to China, that players based in Europe are going to be considered ahead of them when it comes to selection of players. 

Brown Ideye is the latest Nigerian export to the Chinese Super League and has joined Super Eagles duo of captain John Obi Mikel and Odion Ighalo in China, which brings to five the number of Nigerian players who have moved to the Far East since January.

Lack Of Exposure Has Caused Decline In Boxing - Isaac Ikhoria

Nigeria’s boxing legend, Isaac Ikhoria, has attributed the decline in boxing to a lack of the boxers’ exposure to competitions ahead of major events.

Ikhouria, said the development was responsible for the country’s  failure to win medals at various tournaments.

Nigeria won its first boxing  medal  at the Tokyo Nineteen Sixty- four Olympic Games  through Nojim Maiyegun, while Ikhuoria also won a bronze at  the Munich ’Seventy- two Olympic Games.

2,500 Athletes To Participate In 11th Nigerian Navy Games

The Nigerian Navy has said that it will parade a strong contingent of 2,500 athletes from all its naval formations at the 11th Nigerian Navy Games scheduled for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from February 26 to March 4.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, at a media briefing at the weekend, said that the games were consistent with the Navy’s policy of using sports to build the mental and physical fitness of its personnel to man the ships for sea and ashore duties.

No Government Nominees In Coming Federations' Elections - Dalung

Solomon Dalung has assured all sports’ stakeholders that a level playing ground will be put in place for the forthcoming sports federations’ elections.

Dalung gave the assurance while defending the 2017 Budget Proposal at the National Assembly yesterday in Abuja yesterday.

He said that a summit of federation presidents will soon be held to drive the sector and redirect energy toward grassroots sports.

Sources close to the player have told ESPN FC, that Ideye is likely to be lining up along with his international team-mate, John Obi Mikel, soon.

The transfer window in China closes later this week ahead of the new season next month and TEDA are in the market for a new striker to add to their squad.
