Nigeria | Gernot Rohr Wants Eagles To Play Teams Above Them Only In Friendlies

Gernot Rohr has agreed with the NFF to engage the Eagles in friendlies with only teams above the Super Eagles in the FIFA rankings.

Gernot Rohr The move was taken to help Nigeria boost their rankings as well, owing to the fact that FIFA uses it as a determinant in most of their decisions especially in seedings for tournaments. 

Already Congo Brazzaville have lost out on a chance to play Nigeria in France, during the Eagles planned camping with Rohr settling for Burkina Faso who are ahead of Nigeria in the monthly FIFA rankings. 

Nigeria's Government Ignores NFF Over Gernot Rohr' Outstanding Salaries

The  sports ministry has refused to yield to pressure from the Nigeria Football Federation to help  sort  the payment of  the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr his three month’s salary out.

Rohr, who  was heavily linked with the vacant Guinea job before  he was snapped  up by the NFF in August last year,  has won  the country’s three competitive matches since his employment.

NFF had  promised that they  would have no problems paying the  national coach his entitlements because  they  had firms who had agreed to support them financially.

Dalung Lauds Pinick Over Football Development

Amaju Pinnick has finally met the sports minister after recently wining a CAF executive seat making him the third Nigerian to do so.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has charged newly elected CAF Executive member, and NFF President Amaju Pinnick to influence the governing body, ensure the development of Nigeria football and attract more infrastructural development to the country.The NFF Boss paid an official visit to the Minister of Sports in Abuja, since his victory in the election held during the 39th General Assembly of CAF on 16 March.

Nigeria Football Supporters’ Club President-General Rafiu Ladipo  feels the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr deserves respect for his winning the country’s three competitive matches since his employment in August last year.

Ladipo’s comments came against the backdrop of the Nigeria Football Federation’s failure to pay Rohr his three months’ salary.

Ladipo, who  has expressed concern over the development, urged the national  football governing body to fulfil their obligation to  pay the former Burkina Faso manager.

The Nigeria Football Federation has engaged in a desperate effort to source money to pay the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr his salary arrears.

The development came barely a day after Cameroon’s Belgian coach Hugo Broos threatened to quit his role at the Indomitable Lions over management and funding problems in the team, who won the  Africa Cup of Nations  for the fifth-time in Gabon on  February 5.

Cameroon, who are  the hosts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, face Nigeria in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying double-header on August 28 and September 2.
