AFCON 2017: President Biya Hosts Victorious Indomitable Lions

Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad has been given a special state reception by the country’s president Paul Biya.

The Indomitable Lions, who lifted the trophy on Sunday after beating Egypt 2-1 in the final in Gabon, attended a ceremony in Yaounde yesterday.

They presented the AFCON 2017 trophy to President Biya at Unity Palace.
Later, they travelled in open-top vehicles through the streets of the capital to parade the trophy to fans.

AFCON 2017: Cameroon Ends Egypt's Long Unbeaten Run To Lift Title

The Indomitable Lions handed Egypt their first Africa Cup of Nations defeat in more than a decade to win the 2017 title with a 2-1 victory in the final in Libreville on Sunday night.

The Pharaohs – who were unbeaten in the Afcon finals since 2004 – took the lead in the first half through Mohamed Elneny, but second-half strikes from substitutes Nicolas N’Koulou and Vincent Aboubakar took the Indomitable Lions to their fifth African crown.

AFCON 2017: Traore's Strike Wins Bronze For Burkina Faso

Alain Traore's fine second half strike handed Burkina Faso third place at the 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations as they beat Ghana 1-0 on Saturday night at Stade Port-Gentil.

Ghana had a bright start in the first five minutes and Agyemang Badu missed a header from close range after a great cross from the left, as the Burkinabe were still asleep.

Despite Stallions' failure to ignite in the opening stages of the encounter, it was Alain Traore who tried a long curling shot from a set piece in the 13th minute, but goalkeeper Richard Ofori collected with ease.

Essam EL Hadary Seeks Fifth AFCON Title Glory

When Essam El Hadary, the Egypt goalkeeper who will start in Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations final, made his international debut, his current teammate Ramadan Sobhi had not yet been born.

First capped in 1996, El Hadary was the man whose saves in a penalty shootout against Burkina Faso on Wednesday took the Pharaohs through to a date with Cameroon in Libreville.

The combined age of the two Burkinabe players he thwarted – Bertrand Traore and goalkeeper Herve Koffi are 21 and 20 respectively - still does not match that of El Hadary, who is unique in still going strong at 44.

Ghana, Burkina Faso To Battle For AFCON 2017 Bronze Today

Black Stars of Ghana and the Stallions of Burkina Faso will battle for the bronze of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon on Saturday (today).

After the two teams were knocked out by Cameroon and Egypt in the semi-finals on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, they will seek to console themselves with a the bronze. Burkina Faso lost 4-3 on penalties to the Pharaohs, after a 1-1 draw after extra time, while Ghana lost 2-0 to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Thursday.

Radio Talk: Audu Saliu Tips Cameroon To Win AFCON 2017

Popular Radio sports caller and fan who happens to be a Ghanian hailed the Lions of Cameroon for beating his nation.

Audu said Cameroon should have buried the Black Stars in the first ten minutes of the match.

Audu rated the Lions as the best side currently in the competition.

Cameroon beat Ghana 2-0 to progress to the final where they will face Egypt.
